5/4/09 Trinity Christian Wins Districts While Cougars Recieve Runner-up Honors!
STUART — Jacob Johnson and the Trinity Christian School baseball team completed a dominating run through District 13-1A on Friday.
Johnson pitched a two-hitter and struck out seven, and the Warriors used a seven-run fifth to beat Community Christian 10-0 for the district title.
"He's got really good control," Community Christian coach Ric Baldwin said. "They had the radar gun on him and he was around 88-90, so he throws hard."
Timmy Leow doubled twice and had two RBIs for Trinity Christian (22-3), which has won all nine games against district opponents by a combined score of 130-9.
The shutout was Trinity's 14th this season and fourth in a row. The Warriors have allowed two runs or less in 20 of their 25 games.
Community Christian (15-12), which lost to TCA 10-2 and 16-1 during the regular season, trailed 3-0 after 4 1/2 innings.
Then Trinity ended things with five hits in a seven-run fifth. A bases-loaded balk kick-started the roll.
"They convert all of their opportunities," Baldwin said.
Community plays at District 14-1A champion Lake Worth Christian in a Region 4-1A quarterfinal at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
